Contextually, my practice concerns urban space and how its architecture both affects and is affected by the practice of everyday life. Particularly, how the certain urban structures become catalysts of alienation, oppression, segregation and acts of self-liberation.
My immediate environment is always my source for inspiration. Documenting initially through drawing and photographing, I repeatedly rework compositions through various media including watercolour, printmaking, digital photography and digital drawing. Preliminary studies are integral to the artistic process, serving as reductionist techniques; fragmenting, flipping and dissolving elements. The final painting process involves a repetitive process of layering washes, rubbing and wiping at the surface while working with industrial materials such as, plywood, gypsum and metals.
This process is an attempt to capture the perceptual unification of the body and its environment. Painting works as an extension of the body, tracing the indeterminate qualities of objects and space beyond signs. It's the sensory impact of the spaces that we inhabit and how the body negotiates within them.
